Audemars Piguet, which Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet established in 1875, changed the extravagance watch game when it appeared the Royal Oak in 1972. The heavy steel watch was an eminent takeoff from the substantially more fragile gold watches of prior days.
Rolex has many firsts to its name. The brand made the primary waterproof wristwatch, the Oyster, in 1926; the main wristwatch with a naturally changing date on the face, the Datejust, in 1945; the principal wristwatch waterproof to 100 meters, the Oyster Perpetual Submariner, in 1953; and, the next year, the main wristwatch to show double cross zones simultaneously, the GMT Master. Established by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis in London in 1905, the organization is presently the biggest very good quality watch brand on the planet. In 2017, a Rolex Daytona that had been possessed by entertainer Paul Newman set a record when it sold for $17.8 million at closeout.
